The Young and the Talented – Becki Harrison

Three years can be a long time for anyone in the market research industry, and none more so than for Becki Harrison, Acumen’s Senior Fieldwork Manager.

Having joined the Acumen team in late 2007, fresh from completing her degree in Media & Cultural Studies, Becki has tirelessly worked for three years, progressing from a role in recruitment into Acumen’s fieldwork team. While she has now carved out a niche for herself with tricky Finance projects, she has also become an accomplished moderator and market research advocate.

It is in this facet that she has recently been set the challenge of collaborating on the Young and Talented BIG Project with research veteran Ray Poynter and three other industry figures. Together they have set themselves the challenge of creating a presentation, discussing the impact of social media on B2B industries. Sounds simple? Not when they’ve limited themselves to collaborating on virtual environments only. Their goal is create a presentation using only the social media tools that they will be doing their presentation on. It will certainly be something to look out for at the BIG conference in May 2011.

In Becki’s words:
What, for you, are the big issues to watch out for in research?
“Social media and other technologies are going to be the big topic this year. How we use them and how they are altering the dynamics of consumer interaction.”

Where would you be if you weren’t a fieldworker?
“Ideally a presenter of A Place in the Sun, whiling away the hours on sun-kissed shores while nosily exploring rich people’s houses.”
